Ben is the director and guide for Nordic Wildlife Tours and is best known for his photographs of seabirds and killer whales taken across the Shetland Islands. His move to the islands in 2021, spurred on by his love for seabirds, was ultimately one of the most profound decisions of his life. Since moving, his day to day life now revolves around photographing killer whales, seabirds, otters, and watching the northern lights, something he could have only dreamt about growing up. His work over recent years has been showcased in various publications such as Outdoor Photography Magazine and the British Wildlife Photography Awards; his image ‘Spiralling Textures’ was highly commended in the 2026 competition. In recent years, Ben was lucky to have worked on several shoots for National Geographic’s award-winning feature film ‘Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story’, which is a must-watch for anyone interested in Shetland’s wildlife and its otters. Outside of Shetland, Ben has travelled across the world photographing all kinds of interesting wildlife, from remote corners of the Australian outback to America and Morocco. But it is Iceland, a country rich in iconic Nordic wildlife, that has taken a hold of him. Yearly visits since 2017, Ben has returned to document its wildlife and landscapes throughout the winter and summer months, in particular, red-throated divers, red-necked phalaropes, and killer whales. Iceland is beginning to feel like a home away from home as each visit goes by, and his familiarity with the island is one of the main reasons we will be running photographic tours there. As Ben’s love for islands and its wildlife continues to grow, the ever-growing gratitude towards showing naturalists and photographers alike knows no bounds and Ben looks forward to guiding new people from far and wide and sharing exciting wildlife encounters with them.
